An active, lively and praying church is a symbol of strong and unwavering faith said Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, the bishop of the diocese of Udupi in his homily on the occasion of the blessing and inauguration of the renovated Church of our Lady of Fatima, Pernal. The catholic faith that had been taught and handed over by our ancestors kept us vibrant and the renovated church is the sign of such faith he narrated.
In the felicitation program organised after the blessing and inauguration of the church, bishop felicitated Rev Fr Jerome Monteiro, Parish Priest for his able leadership as the shepherd of God’s people of Pernal.
Very Rev. Dr Leslie Dsouza, the Dean of Shirva Deanery congratulated the people for joining the hands together with the Parish Priest and accomplishing the task of renovation. He called upon the people to uphold the values that mother Mary held during her lifetime and in raising Jesus as the son of God.
Mr Vinay Kumar Sorake, the former mister of the government of Karnataka applauded the services rendered by the Christian communities throughout the nation in the field of education, health, social service and charitable work. Pernal being a small village, the magnificent church structure is a blessing to the people he opined.
Rev Fr Jerome Monteiro, Parish Priest welcomed the gathering and honoured the church architects and contractors.
The donors were felicitated and thanked for their remarkable contributions towards the renovation. Sr Janet Rego SSp.S presented the donors to the gathering.
Mrs Cynthia Pinto, secretary of the parish pastoral council proposed a vote of thanks. Mr Arun Dsouza, vice President of PPC, Mrs Flavia Dsouza, the coordinator for the Ecclesiastical commissions, Sr Pauline Pereira SSpS, Superior, Kripalaya Convent and Mr David Dsouza, former President of Pilar Village Panchayath were present.
Mrs Roselyn Gomes and Mr Anil Danthy compered the program.
The entire gathering was served with lunch after the felicitation program.
