
Celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of Mother Mary and Independence Day 2025

Pernal, 15 August 2025.
The Catholic Sabha members, along with Parish Priests and the parish community of Fatima Church, Pernal, came together in faith and patriotism on 15th August to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mother Mary along with the 79th Independence Day of India.
The day began with the solemn Eucharistic celebration in honour of the Assumption of Mother Mary, presided over by Resident Priest Rev. Fr. Pascal Menezes, along with Paish Priest Rev. Fr. Jerome Monteiro. In his homily, Rev. Fr. Jerome Monteiro reflected on the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary, calling the faithful to the lives of humility, service, and devotion, while also being responsible citizens committed to the nation’s welfare. The members of the Catholic Sabha of our Parish conducted the whole liturgy. A special prayer was offered for the country, remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters and seeking God’s blessings for peace, unity, and prosperity.
At the end of the Mass, Fr. Jerome Monteiro wished all the parishioners, on behalf of Fr. Pascal and himself, a blessed Feast of the Assumption of Mother Mary and 79th Independence Day of our country.
Following the Mass, the Indian national flag was hoisted in the church premises by the chief guest, Catholic Sabha founder member Mr. Jerome Andrade, along with our Parish Priest Fr. Jerome Monteiro and the Resident Priest Fr. Pascal Menezes. By saluting the National Flag, the National anthem was sung. Ceremony commands conducted by Master Daren Andrade. A special Independence Day speech was delivered by Miss. Sherley Andrade. Also, a patriotic speech was delivered by our Parish Priest, Fr. Jerome Monteiro. Fr. Pascal Menezes sang a few patriotic slogans. The active Church Choir team sang the “Vande Mataram”. Mrs. Anita Castelino welcomed the Guests. Mrs. Marita Andrade proposed a vote of thanks. The Program was compared by Mrs. Leena D’Souza. A good number of parishioners, including PPC Secretary Mrs. Cynthia Pinto, 20 commission coordinator Mrs. Flavia D’Souza, Krapalaya Convent Sisters, PPC Members, and other dignitaries, were present.
The twin celebrations concluded with distributing Sweet Laddu for all, donated by Robert & Family in birthday remembrance of his Father, the Late Mr. Marian Castelino, fostering fellowship among parishioners. The occasion was marked by an atmosphere of gratitude. (Gratitude to God for the gift of faith, and gratitude to the nation’s heroes for the gift of freedom).
