Pernal, May 15: The annual Parish day celebration of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Pernal was held in a grand manner on Sunday, May 15 2022. A special mass was followed by a stage function and a grand lunch prepared by parishioners itself.
Estate Manager of Udupi Diocese Rev Fr. Romeo Lewis was the chief Celebrant and guest. Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Jerome Monteiro presided over the function. The two prominent Priests who served Pernal in recent past, Rev. Fr. Norbert Dsouza and Rev. Fr. Gregory Serrao and three Priests from Pernal but serving in other Parishes of Udupi Diocese; Rev. Fr. John Mendonca, Rev. Fr. Fredrick Dsouza nd Rev. Fr. Xavier Lewis also attended the mass as well as the program after it. Rev. Fr. Pascal Menezes and Superior of Convent Sr. Pauine Serrao accompanied them. The Parish Council Vice President Mr. Richard Mendonca, Secretary Mrs. Leena Dsouza and coordinator Mrs Violet Lobo were also present.
The gathering was welcomed by the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Jerome Monteiro.
Rev Fr. Romeo Lewis spoke about the unity in a parish. Then, the senior citizen Mr. Joseph Lobo was honoured. The Gold medal winner in Mangalore University in Bed, Miss Frencita Janice Mathais and the newly elected Panchayath Member Mrs. Rita Danthi were honoured. CA Roy Allan Mathias and Mr Valentine Dsouza were also honoured for their selfless service to the church.
The Parish Bulletin “Fatimacho Thallo” – May issue was inaugurated and the sponsor Mr. Anthony Mendonca was also honoured for the same. Then all the Priests were honoured by the Parish Priest.
Prize distribution was conducted by ICYM members, of which the sports activities carried out in the recent days.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Parish Council Secretary Mrs Leena Dsouza.
Parishioners from 5 wards (Fatima, Saud, St Joseph, Koraje and Nithyadar) performed Skits; dance performances from ICYM members and Infant Jesus ward and special Gumta song from St Anthony ward enthralled the parishioners.
The programme concluded with grand lunch. Melwyn Pernal compered the programme.
