Report: Jyothi Aranha, YCS Animator.
The YCS Pernal Unit organized the New Office Bearers’ Oath Taking Ceremony and Orientation Programme on 14th June 2026 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Pernal.
The programme began with the Holy Eucharistic Celebration, which was presided over by our Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves. During the Mass, the newly elected office bearers took their oath of commitment and responsibility towards the YCS movement.
Following the Mass, the orientation programme was held in the church hall. Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, YCS Pernal Unit and Shirva Deanery Animator Mrs. Jyothi Aranha, and the resource person Rev. Fr. Kiran Nazareth were present on the dais.
The programme commenced with a prayer led by Edal Mendonca, followed by a warm welcome by Nathan Fernandes. Sherwin Mendonca introduced the resource person to the gathering.
At the beginning of the orientation session, Rev. Fr. Kiran Nazareth divided the gathering into two groups—one consisting of YCS members and the other of their parents. He then conducted separate cell meetings for both groups, encouraging interaction, discussion, and sharing of experiences. This activity helped the participants understand the importance of communication, leadership, and active involvement in the YCS movement.
Addressing the students, Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves delivered a meaningful message on the Five Rules of YCS/YSM and encouraged the students to live by these values in their daily lives. Rev. Fr. Kiran Nazareth then conducted an informative orientation session, explaining the history and journey of YCS, its arrival in India, and the importance of active participation by students in the movement. His inspiring talk motivated the students to take a greater role in YCS activities and leadership.
YCS members along with their parents actively participated in the programme, making it a memorable and enriching experience for all. As a token of gratitude, a memento was presented to Rev. Fr. Kiran Nazareth by the YCS students.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Deon Lobo. The event was efficiently compered by Melora Castelino.
The orientation programme successfully strengthened the understanding of YCS among the students and encouraged the newly elected office bearers to serve with dedication, responsibility, and enthusiasm.
