The Diocese of Udupi, under its Social Service activities through SAMPADA enriches women in various ways through self help group movement. This program aims at building awareness on various sensitive issues affecting women in general and their role in the family and society in particular. The organisation had been successful in organising women into self help groups and a lot of enrichment activities have been undertaken under the Diocesan leadership.
To take an account of activities and with the intention of monitoring progress Sr Nancy Lobo FMM, the State Co-ordinator for women empowerment based at Karnataka Regional Organisation for Social Service (KROSS), Bangalore visited Pernal unit and to an account on the activities and progress. Mr Stanly Fernandes from SAMPADA and Mrs Jacintha Dsouza, the animator were present.
Speaking to the women Sr Nancy Lobo requested women to understand the basic concept of ‘Sangha’ and how the concept works in every Parish, deanery and Diocesan level. She also stressed in the need to understand the political scenario, the seats available for women under each category at different spheres of contesting at the helm of political empowerment. She called upon women to have sufficient general knowledge on these aspects which would help women in the long term.
Speaking on the occasion Rev Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, Parish Priest said coming together for a cause would unite women and also would give certain ability to have the right focus.
Members from all the sanghas under the Parish were present.
